Day 7

Hello everyone. With the first day of purely lobbying over the "bread and butter" of the conference could now begin. Today my day started out with waiting in the World Forum theater room to give my speech in the GA ceremony. I was very nervous, but my friends and advisors told me I did well so I am glad about that. Although, waiting for three hours to give my speech did get boring after a while.... Anyway, after I gave my speech I went to committee where the committee's first to resolutions were presented to the delegates. One regarding the promotion of new or restored democracies (failed) and one regarding the situation of the Comorian island Mayotte (passed). Although, I had worked personally on neither resolution I tried to get involved by asking questions.

It was in the end a very good day of debate and I hope to discuss my resolution in front of the committee tommorow.

I will also try to post the vieo of my speech soon. The sound quality on the video wasn't good so I am going to try to fix that before I post it.

I'll post again soon

  2. Ryan,

Enjoying your take on the conference. Can you give us a description of your host family and the place you are being hosted? How are you spending your time while not in session? My best to you and Mrs. Jacobitti!

  3. Haha oh Scott, always struggling to finish those Chem labs.

So my host family is a family of 5, 3 daughters (15) Anna, my host sister, her two other sisters (both younger 13 and 3) and her two brothers (12 and 3). We went out to a groupd dinner today with our host siblings, which was fun and we usually go out every night to hang out with the other people in our delegation and their host siblings.

While, not in session I usually just eat or hang out with my host family. However, I have had to miss some committee time while it was in session such as for the ambassador meeting, waiting with the other GA students to give my speech and today going to the old city of Delft.

  4. Hey guys its day 10 I have been having trouble with the wifi so I haven't been able to post. Furthermore, I am having problems posting an actual comment...., so now that I am done complaining I'll let you know how my past few days have been.

Yesterday, we whent to the Peace Palace, home of the ICJ. It was incredible, we sat in the seats of people from around the globe. We also got to see where hearings were given and trials were heald.

Committee has been great although my ambassador responsibilities often pull me out of committee, which is unfortunate. Don't get me wrong though being an ambassador is great; today I waived the Ukrainian flag as a band played in the World Forum theater. Also, today, being part of the GA, I went to the Planery session. Which, is where all GA (general assembly) deleagtes from a country debate over the best resolution of each committee. Although, slow and 5 hours long it was also a great and new experience.

Today, I also went to the ICTY (international criminal tribunal of Yugoslavia), which was mind boggling. Sitting on the other side of a piece of glass was a man who committed genocide (I forgot the name, but I'll post it later).

I am sad the conference is over, but at the same time a little happy. Yesterday I started getting sick and now I have a cold, which kind of forced my day to be me blowing my noise every 5 minutes.

Tonight is my host sisters birthday and we are having a party. Also, we are going to the THIMUN delegate dance.

I'll post again as soon as I can...., and oh ps I have ansewered many of the questions on the last blogs. Sorry I hadn't done it until no, but I had forgotten to respond earlier.

  5. Day 11

Hey guys again I am having trouble posting each day as an actual comment. I am currently sitting in the airport waiting to get on my 4:30 flight to Prague (capital of the Czech Republic).

Last night and this morning were pretty sad as I said goodbye to my host family. It was such a great experience and I am truly going to miss it.

    I'll post again soon.
